Public-sector union bosses are bracing for what’s expected to be a major decision against them in the Supreme Court this month, and one leader is making the strange argument that forcing non-union members to pay union fees is “our power to have a voice.”

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT)’s Randi Weingarten griped, in an article published in Politico Pro on Friday, that a conservative Supreme Court could “try to take away our power to have a voice” in the upcoming Janus v. AFSCME decision.

“Anyone who is being prudent is, of course, tightening their belts and assuming some erosion of revenue,” said Randi Weingarten, president of the 1.7 million-member AFT. But the AFT and others are prepared for a fight, Weingarten cautioned: “The notion that somebody else is going to try to take away our power to have a voice has pissed off our members,” she said.

In February 2018, NTK Network wrote about the Janus case. It concerns an aggrieved worker upset with union fees taken from his paycheck. If the Supreme Court rules in favor of the worker, it could prevent Big Labor unions from taking from the paychecks of non-union workers.

Politico reported a decision is expected as soon as Monday.
