Today’s a Big Day for the Tax Bill. 2 Times to Watch: 11:30am and 2pm

Today is a big day for the GOP’s effort to cut taxes and simplify the tax code, with the House expected to vote on its tax cuts bill this afternoon.

There will be a lot of activity around the bill today. To help you cut through the clutter, here are two times (eastern) to watch for big news.

11:30am

This is when President Trump will visit the House Republican Conference, in an effort to rally House Republicans in support of the bill.

The House GOP can’t afford more than 22 defections, if every House Democrat votes against the bill. Some House Republicans from blue states remain opposed over changes to the state and local tax (SALT) deduction.

2pm

After the president meets with House Republicans, the caucus will gear up for the final vote.

Reporters are saying the vote should happen around 2pm:

If the bill passes the House, it will then go to the Senate. The Senate GOP has their own version of a tax cuts bill, with similar goals but some important differences to hash out with the House.
