The Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) have only endorsed one African-American woman running for Congress in 2018, despite claims that they value the minority group.

DNC Chair Tom Perez recently said, “Black women are the backbone of the Democratic Party, and we can’t take that for granted. Period.”

However, Axios is reporting that African-American women feel slighted by the national organization:

“There are at least 43 Democratic black women running as challengers for U.S. House seats, but only one — Lauren Underwood of Illinois — has the backing of the national campaign organization.”

“These are organizations that are meant to help make sure black interests are represented and yet everybody is looking at who’s more electable based on money,” Alabama congressional candidate Audri Scott Williams told Axios.

This marks the second time in the past few days that African-American women have criticized the DNC.

The Daily Caller reported on Friday:

“Progressive activist Stephanie Strong Hill called out DNC Chairman Tom Perez to his face over the DNC not hiring enough black women at a left-wing event earlier this month.”

Democrats need African-American women to support Democratic candidates if they hope to retake the House in 2018.

According to Axios:

“Black women are a powerful voting bloc for the Democratic Party as they work to capture the House and Senate. In 2016, 94% of black women voted for Clinton over Trump.”
