Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) told reporters on Wednesday that the Pennsylvania State Legislature should consider impeaching the Pennsylvania Supreme Court over what he called a “partisan power grab.”

“I think it’s inevitable that that conversation’s going to take place,” Toomey said at a press conference. “Does this blatant, unconstitutional power grab that undermines our electoral process – does that rise to the level of impeachment?”

“That’s a conversation that has to happen,” he said.

A reporter asked the senator if he had directly urged members of the State Legislature to pursue the course, but Toomey denied that he had spoken with anyone on the topic. “I would urge them to have that conversation with their constituents and their colleagues,” he said.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court mandated a map that would greatly benefit Democrats on a party line vote of 4-3, and the map will go into effect before the 2018 election.
