Joe Biden’s controversial remarks at a Manhattan fundraiser Tuesday night have escalated into a full-blown intra-party fight among Democrats this week.

In an attempt to demonstrate that lawmakers in Washington should be able to be civil to one another despite their political differences, Biden cited two names during his fundraiser: Sens. James O. Eastland of Mississippi and Herman E. Talmadge of Georgia. Both were Democrats, and both were segregationists.

Democrats began piling on Biden Wednesday afternoon. Below is a collection of the top 7 attacks

Joe Biden responded to the criticism just before a fundraiser in Maryland Wednesday night. He refused to apologize for his remarks and said that people like Cory Booker should apologize to him because “he knows better.”

“There’s not a racist bone in my body,” Biden said.
