Top Obama Advisor: Franken ‘Was Sacrificed By Senate Dems’

Steve Bannon, ex-chief strategist to President Trump, was in a lot of headlines on Wednesday, and rightfully so. But another ex-chief strategist, one to President Obama, also made a questionable statement on Wednesday, this one about outgoing and disgraced Sen. Al Franken (D-MN).

On Wednesday, Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN) took the oath of office as Franken’s replacement. Franken announced his resignation from the office after multiple women accused him of unwanted sexual advances.

David Axelrod, once the most important advisor to President Obama and a key architect of Obama’s rise, came to Franken’s defense on Wednesday, though, and appeared to criticize Senate Democrats for calling on Franken to resign.

Axelrod appears to have less influence in the Democratic Party these days, focusing on his CNN role and his podcast. If he tries to step back into the political fray, though, this Franken episode shows Democrats may want to exercise caution in taking his advice.
