Serving as the latest sign that former Vice President Joe Biden is poised for another presidential campaign, top Democrats in Philadelphia are prepping the red carpet for its native son. Prominent Democrats in the City of Brotherly Love are planning a massive fundraiser for Biden “within a day or two of his formal announcement.”

The Democrats include former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, and Comcast Senior Executive Vice President David L. Cohen, according to a report by WHYY’s Dave Davies.

Cohen sent an email to potential donors on Wednesday asking for maxed-out contributions of $2,800 for Biden. “We keep hearing that Vice President Joe Biden is seriously considering a run for President,” he wrote. “Speaking personally, I am very hopeful that he will move forward in announcing his candidacy soon.”

Cohen appears to be rounding up Philadelphia Democrats on Biden’s behalf:

Cohen said a group wants to “make a big Philadelphia statement” if Biden does announce, and says he’s pulled together a “Philadelphia finance leadership team” including Rendell, Nutter, former U.S. Rep. and Philadelphia Democratic City Committee Chairman Bob Brady, former state Sen. Connie Williams, developer Ron Rubin, Independence Blue Cross CEO Dan Hilferty, and attorneys Steve Cozen, Charisse Lillie, and Ken Jarin, “with others to follow.”

Biden, who was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, has reportedly considered Philadelphia as a campaign headquarters location. He currently resides with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, in nearby Delaware.

Cohen’s email even mentioned Philadelphia serving as “a second home to Joe Biden and his family.”

Biden is expected to make an official announcement regarding his presidential campaign at the end of the month.
