Trump Blasts Warren Over Native American Ancestry Claims

President Trump blasted Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) a 2020 presidential hopeful for her controversial claims of Native American ancestry on Saturday.

“Today Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to by me as Pocahontas, joined the race for President,” Trump wrote in a tweet. “Will she run as our first Native American presidential candidate, or has she decided that after 32 years, this is not playing so well anymore? See you on the campaign TRAIL, Liz!”

For years, Warren had claimed to have Native American ancestry but was unable to provide adequate proof.

These claims of Native American ancestry prompted Trump to nickname Warren “Pocahontas,” and to suggest that Warren take a DNA test to prove the validity of her claims.

Warren did just that in October 2018, releasing the results of a DNA test, which proved that Warren could have a Native American ancestor anywhere from six to 10 generations back, potentially making her between 1/64th to 1/1,024th Native American.

Warren was criticized for releasing the results of her DNA test by almost everyone, including Native Americans and Democratic supporters.

Then last week, the Washington Post reported that in 1986, Warren identified herself as “American Indian” on her registration card for the State Bar of Texas.

Warren still has not been able to adequately address the questions raised by her ancestry claims, and it doesn’t appear that Trump is ready to drop the nickname “Pocahontas” from his arsenal, either.
