President Trump, in a speech to evangelical leaders on Monday night, warned the Christian leaders that Antifa violence will descend upon the United States if Republicans lose Congress in November, according to audio obtained by The New York Times.

The president projected that a Democratic government would roll back protections for religious liberty, and he asked the pastors in attendance to make sure their parishioners vote on Election Day.

He said that Democrats would take their rights from them “violently.”

“They will end everything immediately,” he said, apparently referring to Democrats. He added, again without being clear whom he was talking about: “They will overturn everything that we’ve done and they’ll do it quickly and violently. And violently. There’s violence. When you look at Antifa, and you look at some of these groups, these are violent people.”

The president boasted that he had curtailed enforcement of the Johnson Amendment, which prevents religious leaders from endorsing political candidates. He asked that Christians use their newfound freedom to push Republican candidates.

If not, Trump said, Antifa, a violent left-wing group, could only be the beginning of the liberal rage inflicted on Christian America.

Trump didn’t offer any specific evidence for his claim.
