President Trump, speaking at a gathering of GOP congressmen in West Virginia, compared House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s description of thousands of dollars in bonuses for American workers as “crumbs” to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 characterization of millions of Americans as “deplorables.”

“When I came into this beautiful building just a while ago, one of the people said, ‘You know, I just got a check, and I have $221 dollars more than I had last year at this time in my envelope,'” Trump told the gathering.

The president then cited the fact that companies all across the country are rewarding their employees with bonuses and higher wages following the GOP tax bill.

“We got hit with these corporations giving tremendous bonuses to everybody that Nancy Pelosi called ‘crumbs,'” he said.

“That could be like ‘deplorable,'” he commented to someone off stage. “Those two words, they seem to have a resemblance.”

Trump rejected her assertion, defending the increased revenue for American workers: “But she called it ‘crumbs’ when people are getting $2,000 and $3,000 and $1,000. That’s not crumbs. That’s a lot of money.”

During the 2016 election, Trump’s opponent, Hillary Clinton, described “half” of his supporters as “deplorables” at a Democratic fundraiser, accusing them of bigotry.
