President Trump has reportedly narrowed down the list of potential Supreme Court nominees to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy and is deciding between three U.S. appeals court judges.

According to the Wall Street Journal Trump is deciding between “judges: Brett Kavanaugh of Maryland, of the D.C. Circuit; Raymond Kethledge of Michigan, of the Sixth Circuit; and Amy Coney Barrett of Indiana, of the Seventh Circuit.”

Judge Kavanaugh, a former clerk of Justice Kennedy, reportedly impressed White House counsel Don McGahn – who is leading the search process to replace Justice Kennedy – with his “long record of judicial rulings,” because it makes “him a known quantity.”

Judge Barrett, who clerked for the late Justice Antonin Scalia, has been receiving a lot of media attention, as she would be the first women nominated to the Supreme Court by a Republican president since 1981.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that Judge Kethledge, who also clerked for Justice Kennedy, “hit it off” with President Trump during their meeting earlier this week.

President Trump will announce his nominee to replace Justice Kennedy on Monday night at 8pm ET.
