President Trump announced on Monday that his administration was designating North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.

As part of his strategy to maintain pressure on Pyongyang, the president told Cabinet meeting that the designation would alert the world to North Korea’s continued engagement in acts of violence and assassinations around the globe.

Just this year, North Korea-connected assassins murdered one of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un’s brothers in an airport in Malaysia. The communist nation also kidnapped citizens of other countries for years.

In addition to the diplomatic move, Trump also told reporters that the Treasury Department would introduce additional sanctions on Kim’s regime.
