Trump Hits ‘SICK’ Putin, Assad After Syrian Chemical Attack

President Trump, in a tweet Sunday morning, denounced Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad and Russian President Vladimir Putin following a chemical weapons attack on rebel forces in Syria.

According to The New York Times, “dozens of Syrians” suffocated from the chemical weapons attack Saturday night. It’s the deadliest chemical attack since Trump ordered missile strikes on a Syrian airbase in April 2017.

The Assad regime and their Russian backers denied the use of chemical weapons occurred, but medical experts on the ground disagreed:

Medical and rescue groups blamed President Bashar al-Assad’s government for the assault on the suburb, east of the capital, Damascus, which took place after dusk on Saturday.

Rescue workers reported finding at least 42 people dead in their homes from apparent suffocation, and antigovernment activists circulated videos of lifeless men, women and children sprawled on floors.

President Trump agreed with the assessment of humanitarian groups, calling the attack “SICK” and blaming “Animal Assad” and Putin for the atrocity:

The president called for humanitarian assistance to reach the victims, but he offered no indication of possible retaliation.
