Prior to boarding Air Force One, en route to the NRA Convention on Friday, President Trump and Chief of Staff John Kelly shot down “false” reports about a strenuous relationship between the two.

“We have a great relationship,” Trump told reporters. “He’s doing a great job as chief of staff. I could not be more happy.”

The president slammed The New York Times for its reporting, claiming they “falsely reported” that Kelly called Trump “an idiot.”

For his part, the chief of staff praised the president’s accomplishments through the first 15 months of the administration.

“It’s an absolute privilege to work for a president that has gotten the economy going,” he said. “It’s nothing less than brilliant what’s been accomplished in 15 months.”
