In early March, North Korea and South Korea achieved a breakthrough in denuclearization talks, and President Trump agreed to meet with North Korea leader Kim Jong-un sometime before May.

After these ‘stop the presses’ moments, though, the U.S., South Korea, and North Korea went relatively quiet about the proposed meeting. Presumably, all three countries were busy preparing for a potential meeting.

Two major happenings this week, though, restart the momentum for a Trump-Kim meeting.

KIM’S VISIT TO CHINA

NTK Network covered Kim’s alleged meeting with Chinese officials on Monday.

More recently, though, China confirmed that President Xi Jinping met with Kim and they discussed denuclearization.

From Reuters:

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged his commitment to denuclearization and to meet U.S. officials, China said on Wednesday after his meeting with President Xi Jinping, who promised China would uphold friendship with its isolated neighbor.

The meeting also put China back in the North Korea conversation, which for the past few weeks had been dominated by North Korea, the U.S., and South Korea.

TRUMP’S TWEETS

Following news of Xi’s visit with Kim, Trump sought to take some credit for Kim’s visit to China. It was Kim’s first public visit outside of his country since he took power in 2011.

More importantly, though, Trump expressed optimism about denuclearization, and a potential meeting with Kim.
