President Donald Trump celebrated on Monday morning, as the U.S. and Israel jointly marked the historic opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem.

Politico‘s Playbook reported that several U.S. politicians were on hand Monday for the embassy opening:

SPOTTED in Israel for the opening of the American embassy in Jerusalem: Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Dean Heller (R-Nev.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Florida Gov. Rick Scott.

The U.S. delegation also included Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.

However, the day has been marred in part by protests in Gaza. Israeli forces have opened fire on “rock-slinging Palestinians,” according to MSNBC, and at least 37 are dead as of Monday.

The protests are part of a “Great March of Return,” according to NBC News.

On Monday and Tuesday, Artema’s audacious “Great March of Return” was facing what could be its most formidable and perhaps final test: the attempt by thousands of protesters to breach the razor wire fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel.

The origin of the protests were peaceful, but have turned violent at times in recent weeks.
