President Trump, joined by actor Sylvester Stallone and legends of the boxing world, officially pardoned early 20th century boxing champion Jack Johnson, righting a historic racial wrong.

“I believe that Jack Johnson is a very worthy person to receive a full pardon and in this case a posthumous pardon,” he said.

Trump called the pardon a “righteous step” in exonerating a man convicted because of a racist law.

Johnson, who was African American, was convicted of charges related to his relationship with a white woman.

Stallone and others in the boxing world have lobbied for Johnson’s pardon for years.
