President Trump has picked a preferred candidate to represent the Democratic Party’s top line in 2020.

And he wants a rematch.

Like many of Trump’s tweets, one can read it as a tongue-in-cheek message. Trump is actively trying to make Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), House Minority Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Clinton the divisive faces of the Democratic Party. Surely, he’ll argue this no matter who wins the Democratic nomination in 2020.

But after he shocked the world and beat Clinton in 2016 – handily, at least in the Electoral College – it’s hard not to believe Trump may actually want to face her again in 2020.

While Clinton is seen as unlikely to run, dozens of Democrats are lining up to take her place as the Democratic standard-bearer. The 2020 primary for Democrats may be even larger than Republicans’ wide-open 2016 field.
