President Trump, speaking with governors from across the country on Monday, told the group that he would ban bump stocks with or without Congressional support.

“We have to have action,” Trump said. “We don’t have any action. [A shooting] happens. A week goes by, let’s keep talking. Another week goes by, we keep talking. Two months go by, all of a sudden everybody’s off to the next subject.”

The president then told the group he would outlaw bump stocks himself. “I don’t care if Congress does it,” he said to applause from the group.

Trump also encouraged the governors to consider increasing security at schools, and the president criticized the response of Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

“They weren’t exactly medal of honor winners,” he said. “The way they performed was frankly disgusting.”

“You don’t know until you’re tested, but I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon, and I think most of the people in this room would have done that, too,” Trump told the governors.
