Trump Reveals Immigration Plan

President Trump’s top immigration adviser, Stephen Miller, revealed to a conference call of House Republican staff what the president’s immigration plan would entail. NBC News was on the conference call and learned the key points of the plan.

Here are the main features of the plan.

Trump Gives:

  • A pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million Dreamers. Over eighty-six percent of Americans support giving DACA style-protections to illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States as children, and Trump would be the first president to solve the issue.

Trump Gets:

  • The Wall: Congress would allocate $25 billion for the president’s signature campaign promise.
  • End of chain migration: 1.8 million DACA recipients would be able to sponsor a flood of new immigration with current chain migration rules. An end to the program would avert that outcome.
  • End of visa lottery program: Trump pledged to end this program after a lottery winner used a truck in a terrorist attack on New York streets.

The fight over DACA has animated recent weeks of debate in Washington, D.C., after the president rescinded the immigration policy last year. With DACA set to expire in March, Trump is demanding significant concessions from Democrats to codify the program into law.
