Trump Slams Jamie Dimon After JPMorgan CEO Criticized President’s Smarts

President Donald Trump criticized JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon on Twitter Thursday, after the banker said he could beat Trump in 2020 and questioned the president’s intellect.

“I think I could beat Trump… because I’m as tough as he is. I’m smarter than he is,” Dimon said, according to CNBC. “I would be fine. He could punch me all he wants, it wouldn’t work with me. I’d fight right back.”

Dimon also criticized Trump’s wealth, noting that the president inherited most of his money, and contrasted Trump’s story with his own success story.

The morning after these remarks, Trump fired off a tweet repeatedly questioning Dimon’s aptitude:

Dimon has long been rumored as a potential dark horse 2020 presidential candidate for the Democrats. But after his broadside against the president on Wednesday, Dimon issued a retraction:

“I should not have said it,” Dimon’s statement read. “I’m not running for president. Proves I wouldn’t make a good politician. I get frustrated because I want all sides to come together to help solve big problems.”

Dimon has criticized specific Trump policies, such as trade, and has lobbed more vague critiques about the need for “competent government” in the past.
