Trump Snubbed Two Senate Dems in a Big Way on Thursday

On Thursday, President Trump signed a bill rolling back some of Dodd-Frank’s most onerous regulations on mid-sized banks.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), who voted for the bill and who’s one of the most vulnerable Senate Democrats up for reelection this year, was invited to the ceremony.

Two of Heitkamp’s vulnerable Democratic colleagues were not invited.

The Wall Street Journal reported:

Mr. Trump signed the bill in the Roosevelt Room, flanked by officials and lawmakers, including one Democrat, Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, of North Dakota. Ms. Heitkamp is one of several Democrats running for re-election in 2018 whose support of the new law was crucial to its passage. Two others, Sens. Jon Tester of Montana and Joe Donnelly of Indiana, weren’t invited to the bill signing, their aides said.

Does the snub mean Trump likes Tester and Donnelly – the former he called on to resign for his role in derailing VA secretary nominee Ronny Jackson, and the latter he has dubbed the latter “Sleepin’ Joe” – a lot less than Heitkamp? Does it mean he doesn’t think Tester and Donnelly played a meaningful roll in passing the Dodd-Frank rollback?

Either way, the lack of an invitation robs the two vulnerable senators a chance to tout their bipartisan credentials in a visual way. That could have an impact on the midterms this November.
