Trump Taps McDaniel for Another Cycle as RNC Chair

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Ronna Romney will stay on as head of the GOP organization, according to Axios. President Donald Trump offered the extension to the Wisconsin native, who accepted.

McDaniel has overseen one of the most successful fundraising eras for the GOP group in its history, according to CNN.

Trump asked McDaniel last week to serve another term, officials told CNN. He told aides he wants a woman to lead the GOP into his re-election year with the party trying to combat a gender gap and win over women voters. He also likes her leadership of the committee and fundraising efforts.

McDaniel has overseen a fundraising boom for Republicans. Earlier this year, the committee eclipsed the $200 million mark in money raised, the fastest the RNC has ever reached that milestone in a midterm year.

While McDaniel’s next term as chair is not officially a lock, it’s a pretty safe bet. RNC members will be asked to vote to officially allow her to keep the reins for another term at their winter meeting early next year.

While McDaniel has proven particularly proficient at fundraising for her party, Democrats have not been so successful with their new leader, Tom Perez. The Democratic National Committee has struggled to raise money since Trump’s 2016 victory and have fallen far short of their desired fundraising goals.
