President Donald Trump is expected to make his first formal address from the Oval Office Tuesday evening to address the ongoing partial government shutdown.

The speech, scheduled for 9 p.m. Eastern, is expected to last about eight minutes and will be carried by every major broadcast network. It comes as the partial government shutdown enters its third week.

Democrats are demanding an opportunity to rebut the president’s remarks and are calling for “equal time” from the networks, per the Washington Post:

In a joint statement Monday night, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer said Democrats deserved airtime as well to rebut the president’s message.

“Now that the television networks have decided to air the President’s address, which if his past statements are any indication will be full of malice and misinformation, Democrats must immediately be given equal airtime,” they said.

The television networks have not indicated whether they will afford the Democrats this privilege.

Trump is asking for $5.7 billion to fund a wall along the U.S. southern border. Despite that being a relatively small sum, in the scope of the massive annual budget, Democrats have refused to go along with any border wall funding provision on principle.

To further emphasize his belief that there is an immigration crisis along the southern border, the president will travel there for an event Thursday. The White House did not release details on where Trump will travel, but the Post noted that airspace is restricted around McAllen, Texas on Thursday for a “VIP movement.”

UPDATE, 9:39AM: CBS, NBC, and CNN have all indicated they will air the Democrats’ response following Trump’s address.

UPDATE, 10:40AM: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will jointly deliver the Democratic response.
