The president predicted that the United States will sustain its new, fast-paced GDP growth.
President Trump touted U.S. GDP growth outside the White House on Friday morning, telling reporters that he believes the rapid economic expansion to be sustainable.
“We’re on track to hit the highest annual average growth rate in over 13 years,” Trump said. “We’re going to a lot higher than these numbers.”
The president compared economic growth of past presidencies with his own. “During each of the previous two administrations, we averaged just over 1.8-percent GDP growth. By contrast, we are now on track to hit an average GDP annual growth of over three percent,” he explained.
Trump also took pride in the reduction of the trade deficit, pointing out that the U.S. global trade deficit dropped by “more than $50 billion” in the second quarter of 2018.
The U.S. economy grew by 4.1 percent this quarter, the quickest it has grown since 2014.
