President Trump, in an address to the nation on Friday night, announced that the United States military launched strikes against the Assad regime in Syria, in concert with the militaries of France and the United Kingdom.

In a spontaneous announcement, the president told the American people that his administration would not stand for the use of chemical weapons by rogue regimes.

“My fellow Americans, I ordered the United States Armed Forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad,” Trump said. “A combined operation with the armed forces of France and the United Kingdom is now underway.”

Last weekend, the Syrian regime used chemical weapons on its own people, killing dozens.

The president stressed that the United States would continue to enforce its red line of WMD use, and he reminded the world that he launched similar strikes last year, when Assad’s regime also committed crimes against humanity with chemical weapons.
