President Donald Trump said Tuesday, during an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos following his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, that there is a framework for the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

“I think it’s a terrific document. It’s a starter, but it’s a terrific document,” Trump said about the joint statement he signed with Kim.

Trump then informed Stephanopoulos that other details had been negotiated with North Korea after the document was signed, including North Korea destroying some of its ballistic missile sites.

“We have the framework to denuclearize North Korea,” Trump said.

Stephanopoulos asked Trump if the “complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula” means the U.S. will remove the nuclear umbrella it has over South Korea.

“No, that means that they’re going to get rid of their nuclear weapons. We never even discussed the other. They’re going to get rid of their nuclear weapons,” Trump said.
