President Trump told reporters on Thursday that pulling millions in U.S. aid for Palestine was “on the table” if the Palestinians refused to negotiate with Israel to seek a permanent solution to the Middle East crisis.

“It would be a great achievement to mind, I’ve said it from day one, if we could make peace between Israel and the Palestinians,” Trump said. “If we do that, I would consider that one of our truly great achievements.”

To get the Palestinians to negotiate, the president threatened to pull U.S. aid.

“The money is on the table,” he declared. “We give them tremendous amounts – hundreds of millions of dollars a year – that money is on the table.”

Trump remarked that other presidents had refused to use the threat of suspending aid, placing himself apart from his predecessors.

The president made his comments prior to a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.
