President Donald Trump said he “wouldn’t mind” running against former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX), but he’d “love” an opportunity to run against former Vice President Joe Biden or Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Trump made the remarks during an interview with Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo that aired Friday.

On O’Rourke, Trump added that it appeared to him that the media had “chosen” the failed 2018 Texas Senate candidate as their pick. After his initial comment that he “wouldn’t mind” running against O’Rourke, Trump lumped him into the “love” category with Biden and Sanders:

“My attitude is, I wouldn’t mind,” Trump said when asked whether he wanted to run against O’Rourke, whose narrow loss in the Texas Senate race against Ted Cruz last year propelled him into the national spotlight.

“I mean, I’d love to have Biden. I’d love to have Bernie, I’d love to have Beto. I mean, Beto seems to be the one the press has chosen. The press seems to have chosen Beto,” he said.

Trump openly criticized O’Rourke when the former congressman held a rally outside of a Trump event in El Paso last month. O’Rourke has also strongly criticized Trump’s push for a barrier along the U.S. southern border with Mexico and even argued that the existing wall should be removed.

“You have Beto, so you have Beto. And Beto comes out and he says, ‘Let’s take down the wall.’ If you ever took down the wall, this country would be overrun,” Trump said, calling the border wall opposition of border state Democrats like O’Rourke and California Gov. Gavin Newsom purely political in nature.

O’Rourke trails both Biden and Sanders in every national and state-specific poll so far, but he demonstrated that he could be a force to be reckoned with by posting a $6.1 million fundraising haul in his first 24 hours in the race.
