With the conclusion of Special Counsel Robert Muller’s investigation and following the report’s release in redacted form, President Donald Trump is enjoying his highest approval rating since the early months of his presidency, according to a new CNN poll.

According to the survey, 43 percent of Americans said they approve of the job Trump is doing. Another 52 percent said they disapprove. While that rating is still somewhat negative, this marks the first poll since April 2017 in which at least 43 percent of the public said they approve of the job the president is doing.

The best news for Trump is the 35 percent of those who say they strongly approve of his job performance. That’s the highest level ever recorded in any CNN poll.

Perhaps helping Trump’s overall standing is the growing belief that Democrats in Congress are going “too far” in their investigation of the president:

The American public increasingly feels that Democrats in Congress are going too far in investigating the President — 44% say Democrats are doing too much on that score, up from 38% saying so in March. That shift stems largely from independents, 46% of whom now say congressional Democrats are going too far.

As Democratic presidential candidates begin sniping at one another in an incredibly crowded primary, Trump’s gradual uptick in approval rating is a positive sign for his re-elect campaign next year.
