Two Dem Senators Just Received $4 Million Worth of Bad News

Sens. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Joe Donnelly (D-IN) woke up Wednesday morning to bad news about their reelection chances.

Americans for Prosperity (AFP), the group that announced an ad campaign in February against the two Democratic senators for their votes against tax cuts, just released two new ads as part of their $4 million buy.

The McCaskill ad recalls her description of tax-cut bonuses and raises as “scraps”:

And the Donnelly ad focuses simply on the Hoosier senator’s votes against tax cuts:

Politico reported (paywall) that the ads are part of AFP’s ongoing effort to educate voters about the tax cuts, and about McCaskill’s and Donnelly’s votes against them.

The group is putting $1.8 million behind television and digital ads in Missouri and spending $2.1 million in Indiana, following up on earlier buys of similar sizes in February. The Koch Network has committed to spending $20 million to sell the law. Donnelly and McCaskill are considered the two most vulnerable Democrats facing reelection in 2018.

The ads could make it much harder for McCaskill and Donnelly to sell themselves as moderates in a tough reelection year.
