Two Major Brexit Developments, as UK and EU Try to Seal the Deal

On Wednesday, U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May’s government reportedly reached a deal with the European Union (EU) over Brexit.

CNBC reported on the deal:

The U.K. and European Union are reported to have reached a provisional agreement over Brexit but before anyone gets too excited – or indeed, disappointed – there are big hurdles to overcome to get the draft deal approved on all sides.

…We do not know at this stage when and what details of the draft agreement will be made available, although media reports have suggested the draft agreement focuses a lot on new proposals over the Irish/Northern Irish border and an arrangement to keep the U.K. within the EU ‘s customs union after Brexit, for a certain amount of time.

Of course, as CNBC and others have noted, a deal is far from complete. In fact, the likelihood of May passing her deal decreased Thursday after May’s Brexit secretary, Dominic Raab, quit the Cabinet.

BBC reported:

Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab has told BBC News he quit the cabinet over “fatal flaws” in the UK’s draft Brexit agreement with the EU.

And he said the UK should be ready to risk a no-deal Brexit in the face of EU “blackmail”.

BBC also reported May could face a no-confidence vote in parliament over the Brexit deal.

All told, the only thing that’s certain right now when it comes to Brexit, is uncertainty. Stay tuned.
