Two New Senate Race Rankings Put McCaskill’s Seat Near the Top of the List

It’s a new week, and two more D.C. publications have released ‘Top 10’ lists for U.S. Senate seats most likely to flip in 2018. Those two lists put Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) near the top, highlighting her vulnerability in November again.

National Journal ranked McCaskill’s race as the third “top Senate [race] on our radar, ranked in order of most likely to flip.”

Here’s part of what they wrote:

McCaskill, who raised $3.9 million in the first quarter, has also dwarfed [Attorney General Josh Hawley (R-MO] in the money race. Still, the two-term incumbent is confronting the realities of battling for a third term on Trump turf. Trump hosted a fundraiser last month for Hawley, who has said he welcomes the president’s support.

The Hill, meanwhile, ranked McCaskill’s seat second in “top 10 seats most likely to flip in 2018.”

Here’s part of what they wrote:

McCaskill has always faced a tough road to reelection. She’s one of just three Democrats elected statewide in Missouri, which Trump won by almost 20 points. And the GOP is already seizing on McCaskill’s ardent support for Clinton in 2016 as a way to rile up the base.

There seems to be consensus in D.C.: Claire McCaskill is one of the most, if not the most, vulnerable Senate Democrat in the country.
