U.S. Economy Adds 200K Jobs in January; 8th 200K+ Jobs Month Since 2017

The U.S. economy created 200,000 jobs in the month of January, as the unemployment rate stayed flat at 4.1 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The bureau’s release said:

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 200,000 in January, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment continued to trend up in construction, food services and drinking places, health care, and manufacturing.

In January, the unemployment rate was 4.1 percent for the fourth consecutive month.

The report appeared to beat estimates, as CNBC tweeted a graphic showing that January job estimates were at 180,000 jobs created.

It’s the eighth time in 13 months that the U.S. has added 200,000 jobs or more in a month.

It’s also another strong month of job creation under President Trump. The U.S. added 2.05 million jobs in 2017. With the January report, that’s 2.25 million jobs created in the U.S. since President Trump took office.

President Trump has pledged to add 25 million jobs overall in the next 10 years.
