Uber Driver Kicks Out GOP Passengers

An Uber driver booted six Republican volunteers from his car in North Carolina this weekend, as they were making their way to a campaign stop for GOP candidates in the area. According The News & Observer’s Abbie Bennett, the driver told the group, “Welcome to the resistance,” before driving off.

The volunteers, from Washington, D.C., denied that they had engaged in any controversial conversation, saying the discussion revolved around “energy policy and previous Republican campaign experience.”

When the driver found out they were Republicans, he ended the trip.

“Welcome to the resistance,” the driver said while pulling away, according to Chris Godbey and Mary Russell, two of the passengers.

The driver told the six volunteers, who are from the Washington, D.C., area, to exit the vehicle on the grounds that the driver “had the right to deny us service,” Russell said.

“Uber offered to refund the ride and would ensure the driver isn’t paired up with those passengers again,” Bennett wrote.
