The United Kingdom’s Labour Party underperformed in local elections on Thursday, despite high expectations that they could take control of Parliment.

The conservative Tories, on the other hand, outperformed expectations and gained, as a result of a collapse in UKIP’s vote.

“Obviously I’m disappointed,” Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said about the results.

The Labour Party’s Shadow Local Government Secretary Andrew Gwynne told BBC that he believes controversy surrounding anti-Semitic comments made by Corbyn had an impact on the results.

“Labour thought they could take control, this was one of their top targets and they threw everything at it, but they failed,” Prime Minister Theresa May said on Friday, during a visit to Wandsworth.
