Virginia’s Lt. Gov. Denies Sexual Assault Allegation

The man who would step up to replace Gov. Ralph Northam is denying a report that claims he sexually assaulted a woman at the DNC convention in Boston in 2004.

Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax issued a statement at 2:55 am on Monday refuting what he calls “defamatory and false” allegations of sexual assault from 15 years ago.

The allegations were first reported by Big League Politics, the same site that broke the news about Northam’s blackface/KKK yearbook photo. The report “claimed that a fellow at Stanford University said a man sexually assaulted her at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, Mass,” according to Fox News.

In Fairfax’s denial, his office notes that the Washington Post investigated the allegation “more than a year ago” and found “significant red flags and inconsistencies within the allegation.” It turns out that’s not true, however. The Post wrote on Monday that they did not find inconsistencies, but rather they could not corroborate the allegations.

Ultimately, the Post opted not to pursue the story.

The statement concluded by saying that Fairfax would “take appropriate legal action against those attempting to spread this defamatory and false allegation.”

Should Northam resign over the racist photo in his medical school yearbook, Fairfax would become governor.
