The Washington Post‘s Karoun Demirjian said on Sunday that the upcoming week will be a pivotal one for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) bid to be speaker of the House. Demirjian added that it is going to take some work to stop the opposition to her.

CNN’s Nia-Malika Henderson had asked Demirjian during a panel discussion on “Inside Politics” why the issue of who will be the leader of the Democratic caucus is still a fight for Pelosi.

“Well because there has been this group of lawmakers in the House, of Democratic lawmakers, that have kind of double downed on this, you know, Nancy Pelosi, is just no on Nancy, and we don’t necessarily have a solid backup option,” Demirjian said.

Demirjian then applauded Pelosi for being very good at giving people “honey” to back them off, “or making threats when she needs to as well.”

“It’s going to take some doing to be able to pick off everybody in that opposition camp,” Demirjian added.

“So, really, this week is going to be a critical week, because on Wednesday we’re going to see if she can actually break that opposition, or at least winnow it so that it can’t really challenge her prospects,” Demirjian concluded.
