WaPo Reports Feinstein Could Meet With Kavanaugh Soon

Last week, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) bragged that most of his caucus is “following” him in waiting to meet with Judge Brett Kavanaugh until expansive Democratic demands for Kavanaugh’s records are met.

Schumer’s gambit may already be falling apart.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) met with Kavanaugh earlier this week, becoming the first Senate Democrat to do so. Sens. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) have scheduled meetings for August 15.

Now, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee may be the next to meet with Kavanaugh.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) – who’s vulnerable to a far-left challenge to her reelection campaign in 2018 – told The Washington Post this week that she could meet with Kavanaugh soon.

It’s unclear when a greater number of Democrats will begin sitting down with Kavanaugh, whom many senators have announced they will oppose. But Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, indicated this week that her meeting could come soon.

“It’ll certainly be appropriate at a certain time, yes,” Feinstein said. “And I will.”

Maybe Feinstein just slipped from the hard Schumer line. Maybe she genuinely wants to meet Kavanaugh, even though she’s already pledged her opposition to him. Regardless, at least one Schumer delay tactic is crumbling before the Senate minority leader’s very eyes.
