Warren: I Will Not Pardon Donald Trump If Elected President

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) sent out an email to supporters during President Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen’s testimony before the House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday, saying she would not pardon, “anyone implicated in these investigations,” including Trump.

“Look, I get it: It’s really hard to keep track of all the latest twists and turns in the investigations around Donald Trump,” Warren wrote in an email with the subject line: Michael Cohen.

“Our criminal justice system is hanging on and doing its job – the truth is coming out – despite unprecedented, relentless, and potentially illegal pressure from Donald Trump and his associates in and out of government,” the email said.

“But here’s the biggest threat right now: Donald Trump, or the next President, using the pardon power to cover up and permanently excuse this wrongdoing,” Warren continued. “So let me be perfectly clear, in the way that everyone who might be President next should be: If I’m elected President of the United States, there will be no pardons for anyone implicated in these investigations.”

Warren then pressed her 2020 colleagues and Republicans: “Everyone who might succeed Donald Trump as president should adopt the same policy. Starting with Vice President Mike Pence. Sign the petition if you agree.”

This last line citing Pence specifically suggests that Warren believes Cohen’s testimony could lead to Trump’s impeachment.

Warren continued:

This means no pardons or commutations for anyone who is prosecuted and sentenced as part of the Mueller investigation.

No pardons or commutations for any other person implicated as part of a federal criminal investigation into illegal activity related to Donald Trump.

And no pardon or commutation for Donald Trump himself.

Warren ended her email linking to her petition and calling for “no pardons for anyone implicated in these investigations.”
