Warren Will Not Do a Fox News Town Hall, Calls the Network ‘A Hate-For-Profit Racket’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) will not be following in the footsteps of several of her 2020 Democratic presidential rivals by accepting a town hall invitation from Fox News, instead calling the network “a hate-for-profit racket” in a statement on Tuesday.

“I love town halls. I’ve done more than 70 since January, and I’m glad to have a television audience be a part of them. Fox News has invited me to do a town hall, but I’m turning them down—here’s why,” Warren said on Twitter in a series of tweets. “Fox News is a hate-for-profit racket that gives a megaphone to racists and conspiracists—it’s designed to turn us against each other, risking life & death consequences, to provide cover for the corruption that’s rotting our government and hollowing out our middle class.”

“A Democratic town hall gives the Fox News sales team a way to tell potential sponsors it’s safe to buy ads on Fox—no harm to their brand or reputation (spoiler: it’s not),” Warren said.

Earlier this year, Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Tom Perez announced that Fox News would not be hosting any of the 2020 presidential primary debates.

But this decision by the DNC did not stop 2020 hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) from teaming up with the network to do a town hall.

An estimated 2.55 million people watched Sanders’ Fox News town hall, making it the highest-rated presidential town hall of the 2020 cycle.

Following the success of Sanders’ town hall, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) decided to team up with the network for May 8, 2019 town hall.

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D-IN) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) are both scheduled to hold town halls with Fox News as well.
