Watch Out, Media Warns, Trump Nominated a Cool Guy for SCOTUS

Since President Trump announced Circuit Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh as his nominee for Supreme Court on Monday evening, Democrats and the media have been working overtime to smear Kavanaugh’s character as he gears up for a tough nomination fight.

So far, their efforts have missed the mark, and their attacks may have even made Kavanaugh seem more relatable to Americans across the country.

A number of media reports attack the nominee’s hobbies, implying impropriety where there is none. Let’s look at them.

1) Kavanaugh spent thousands on baseball tickets: A hit piece from The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that Kavanaugh racked up thousands in credit card debt. “In 2016, Kavanaugh reported having between $60,000 and $200,000 in debt accrued over three credit cards and a loan,” the paper wrote.

The White House accredited the debt to his purchase of Washington Nationals season tickets for himself and friends. But any potential scandal disappears in the fourth paragraph of the story. “The credit card debts and loan were either paid off or fell below the reporting requirements in 2017,” the report stated.

Kavanaugh’s friends reportedly reimbursed him for the cost of the tickets, and he ended up paying off that debt last year.

2) Kavanaugh liked to drink when he was younger: Another Washington Post article, entitled “The Elite World of Brett Kavanaugh,” portrays the nominee as a man born of privilege, entitlement, and elitism.

As evidence of this silver spoon upbringing, they cite a biography in his high school yearbook, which “listed [him] as the treasurer of the ‘Keg City Club — 100 Kegs or Bust.'” It is not clear if Kavanaugh and his classmates accomplished this Herculean feat.

3) Members of Kavanaugh’s frat-like organization may have tried to get laid in college: According to BuzzFeed, the potential future Supreme Court Justice belonged to a secret society at Yale called Truth and Courage (TNC). “The Yale Secret Society Brett Kavanaugh Joined Was Mostly About Drinking, Yale Alumni Say” is the title of BuzzFeed’s exposé on the judge’s past.

Here’s what they wrote about the organization, based on the account of one random alumna, who attended before Kavanaugh ever set foot on campus:

“Other societies were looking for a prestigious family background, or your GPA. Each had their own personalities,” said Sherry. TNC, [Random Yale alumna Kristin] Sherry said, was unique: It was “organized around having sex with coeds.”

Several years before Kavanaugh was initiated into TNC, Sherry said, the people on campus called the group by an “alternate nickname”: “Tit and Clit.”

BuzzFeed added that two other graduates of Yale have no memory of Sherry’s allegations.

BONUS HIT: If these attacks aren’t pathetic enough for you, the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) took aim at something Kavanaugh never chose – his first name.
