A report from the Washington Free Beacon’s Brent Scher revealed that the Democrats’ hope in the PA-12 special election, Conor Lamb, held some controversial opinions on the state of Israeli-Palestinian relations.

Scher unearthed a 2002 comment that Lamb published on his college newspaper’s site, calling the Israeli response to suicide bombings “terrorism.” Per the Free Beacon:

The comments by Lamb, currently running for Congress in a special election taking place next month, were made in response to a pro-Israel ad published in the Daily Pennsylvanian, a University of Pennsylvania paper, which Lamb said was “disheartening to see.”

“It was disheartening to see the add [sic] in the DP the other day which read, ‘Wherever we stand, we stand with Israel,'” wrote Lamb in October 2002 as a student at UPenn.

Lamb went on to say Israel was targeting “innocent civilians” and guilty of “terrorism.”

Scher notes that the Jewish nation was in the midst of enduring a siege of suicide bombings and attacks on their territory when Lamb posted his comment.

Lamb is challenging Republican Rick Saccone in Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District, after former Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) resigned in disgrace. A poll in early January had the Republican up by double digits.
