Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross predicted in an appearance on CNBC on Wednesday that the United States, Canada, and Mexico would successfully renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

“There’s a good chance of [NAFTA renegotiation],” Ross told a CNBC panel. “I think everybody would prefer to have it be a satisfactory deal for all three parties.”

The commerce secretary warned, however, that President Trump would not accept a bad deal.

“The president has made it clear that if it’s not a deal he likes, he won’t do it,” Ross said.

Throughout his campaign for president in 2016, Trump lambasted Hillary Clinton for her husband’s involvement in the 90’s trade agreement. Trump promised that he would recraft the deal with Mexico and Canada, and if a new deal could not be reached, he would cancel it entirely.
