Will CO Ethics Commission Investigate the Hickenlooper Complaint? It May Take a Week to Find Out.

The Colorado Independent Ethics Commission met for the first time in the month of October on Monday, and almost certainly considered a complaint filed against Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) for allegedly accepting thousands of dollars in the form of travel expenses from friends without disclosing them as gifts.

But Hickenlooper watchers expecting an Ethics Commission decision on Monday, as to whether or not the commission will investigate the complaint against the outgoing governor, were likely disappointed when the commission offered no news.

But Colorado Politics reporter Marianne Goodland explained why in a tweet thread published Monday:

If the complaint is declared non-frivolous, Hickenlooper could be facing a weeks- or months-long investigation into his alleged jet-setting around the world. That could hamper his efforts to run for president, or some other office, in the 2020 cycle. Observers will find out the status of the complaint in a week or two.
