The Wall Street Journal’s Michael Bender said that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s botched handling of allegations that Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) sexually harassed female staffers will add to the calls for Pelosi to step down on Wednesday.

Pelosi appeared on “Meet the Press” on Sunday and was asked by NBC’s Chuck Todd whether Conyers should resign because of these accusations.

Pelosi seemed to suggest in her answer that she did not believe the women who were accusing Conyers and quickly drew backlash from liberals.

During a segment on CNN’s “Inside Politics” about the allegations against Conyers, CNN’s John King played a clip of Rep. James Clyburn’s (D-SC) tone-deaf response to a reporter’s questions about whether Conyers should resign.

Following the clip, Bender reported on what he was hearing from battleground Democrats about the their party’s leadership.

“I talked to some Democrats in battleground states yesterday who say…this is going to add to the calls for Nancy Pelosi to step down,” Bender reported. “[James] Clyburn has been around for decades. Conyers has been around for decades. This is one of the main arguments against Pelosi, the need for fresh leadership and this just adding another talking point.”
