The National Football League (NFL) has had a tumultuous couple years, with sliding ratings and player protests of the national anthem that have dominated the political discussion in America. But a new poll may be the most troubling news for the NFL yet.

According to a University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll released on Wednesday, nearly half of the state’s registered voters have an unfavorable opinion of the NFL.

The poll found that 47 percent of Texans have an unfavorable view of the NFL, compared to just 26 percent of Texans who view the league favorably.

Texas, the state which is home to two NFL franchises – including “America’s Team,” the Dallas Cowboys, who play their home games at ‘JerryWorld,’ a $1.3 billion stadium that can seat over 100,000 people for games – doesn’t like the NFL.

“Trump made this an issue,” Daron Shaw, the co-director of the poll, said. “He understood that making this about the national anthem was good politically. It’s very clear it has hurt the NFL, and that it’s polarized politically and polarized racially.”
